Best Coffee Tables for a Sectional With Chaise or Chaise Sofa
Short answer: For a sectional with a chaise, or a chaise sofa, a common guideline is to size the coffee table from the straight seating run, not the chaise: about two-thirds of that run's length, with 14 to 18 inches between the sofa and the table. Then sit the table a few inches toward the chaise side so the chaise seat can reach it, and check that the top is at or slightly below cushion height. Guides differ on shape, but oval appears in both recommendations we found; round, square and rectangular tables all work if they meet the size rule.
How to size a coffee table for a sectional with chaise
Measure the straight run. One sizing guide says to multiply the longest straight sofa side by 0.66 "not counting the chaise". A 90-inch run points to a table about 60 inches long; an 84-inch run, about 55 inches. The same steps apply to a chaise sofa: measure the long seating side and leave the chaise out of the calculation.
Distance. Leave about 14 to 18 inches from the front edge of the sofa cushion to the table. In a tight room, 12 to 14 inches is the minimum one guide gives.
Reach for the chaise. The same guide suggests shifting the table about 6 to 10 inches toward the chaise side. Castlery notes that sectionals and chaise sofas often benefit from a deeper tabletop, so everyone can reach drinks or books without leaning across.
Height. One guide says the same height as the seat cushion or 1 to 2 inches lower; another gives 1.9 to 3.9 inches lower. Measure your cushions first.
Shape. One guide says a round or oval table softens the hard angles of an L-shaped sectional; another recommends rectangular or oval for L-shaped sectionals. Oval is the overlap. For a large or oversized sectional, one guide suggests a table 47 to 63 inches long, or two nesting tables.

1. Kalalou round recycled wood
A 36-inch round table, 18 inches high, made from recycled wood with a distressed brown finish. With no corners, it is easy to walk around next to the end of a chaise.
2. Park Hill Taurus (EFT20052)
A 36-inch square with a glass top on a plated iron frame in antique bronze. The page says the open base lets your flooring show through, which keeps the table visually light beside a large chaise.
3. Park Hill Lodge recycled elm and iron (EFT26076)
A plank-top square, 35.43 inches on each side and 16.54 inches high, in recycled elm on a brown iron base. Its natural nicks and knots vary from piece to piece.
4. Benzara nesting set (BM193836)
Two tables: a 36-inch square with a glass top and a 29-inch square with a faux marble top, both on gold-finished metal frames. Keep them together in front of the run, or move the small one toward the chaise.
5. Whiteline Tori Large
The deepest top here at 43 inches, and the longest at 47. At 11 inches high it is also the lowest, so compare it with your cushion height. The page says it can be joined with the smaller Tori for a larger surface.
Which one should you choose?
- Straight run around 54 inches (a chaise sofa or small sectional): any of the four 35 to 36 inch tables.
- Longer runs, 85 inches or more: none of these reaches the roughly 56 inches or more that the rule gives on its own. Use the Tori Large, or put the nesting set or the Tori pair side by side.
- Chaise seat that needs to reach the table: the deeper Tori Large, or the nesting set with the small table moved toward the chaise.
- Light look in a small room: the Taurus, with its open glass-top base.
