Reception desks and reception counters for offices, salons, clinics and retail checkouts, from two brands: Reception Counter Solutions and Casa Mare. Shapes include straight counters, L-shaped desks and two-person workstations. Where length is listed, most lines come in 4 ft (48 in) to 8 ft (96 in), and the Elite runs 16 ft.

How to choose a reception desk

  • Shape: a straight counter works for one greeting point. L-shaped models such as the Onix L-shape add extra work and counter surface.
  • One or two staff: four modular two-person workstations, including the Alpha, give each employee their own storage and can be grouped into a larger front desk. For a single receptionist, the shortest listed length is 4 ft.
  • Counter height vs work surface: visitors use the raised front ledge (the transaction counter), and staff work at a lower desk behind it. The Maddox is 38 in tall and the Memphis with Dallas Slats is 42 in tall, both with a 30 in rear desk height.
  • Accessible section: the Onix L-shape lists an ADA-compliant lowered section, and the ADA Malibu has a drop-down section (the maker advises checking your local building code). See our ADA reception desk height guide.
  • Materials: wipe-clean high-pressure laminate or melamine, distressed and reclaimed wood with hot-rolled steel, or torched pine. Several models have built-in LED lighting.

Reception desk FAQ

What is the difference between a reception desk and a reception counter?
The terms overlap: many models are sold as either one. The usual design pairs a raised front counter for visitors with a lower desk for staff, and several are also described as sales counters for retail checkout.

How tall is a reception desk?
Listed front heights in this range run from 37 in to 42-1/4 in, with a 30 in rear desk height where stated. Under the 2010 ADA Standards, the accessible part of a sales or service counter must be no higher than 36 in.

Do reception desks come assembled?
Most need some assembly. They typically ship flat-packed with knockdown or foldable parts, and several list assembly in under 15 minutes.
