Cabinet Bed Sizes Explained: Twin, Full, Queen & King
Cabinet bed sizes follow the mattress inside them, so a twin sleeps like a twin and a queen sleeps like a queen. What changes from one model to the next is the cabinet: how wide, deep and tall it stands when closed, and how far the bed reaches into the room once it's open.
Choosing the sleeping size is usually the easy part. The harder questions are whether the closed cabinet will sit comfortably against the wall they have in mind, and whether there's enough floor in front of it for the bed to fold out without hitting a sofa or a desk. Every one of the cabinet bed sizes we carry answers those questions a little differently, and the published measurements vary more than most shoppers expect.
Cabinet Bed Sizes at a Glance
Every model in our cabinet Murphy bed collection is freestanding, so none of the numbers below depend on wall studs or ceiling height the way a wall bed's do. Murphy bed dimensions are always quoted two ways, open and closed, and each figure here comes straight from the product page.

Two patterns stand out once the cabinet dimensions sit side by side. Width tracks the mattress, which is why the full Orion runs about 17 inches wider than the twin while keeping the same depth and height. Open length barely moves at all, staying between 76 and 83 inches across every size, so the bed reaches roughly the same distance into the room whether you choose a twin or a queen.

Twin Cabinet Beds
A twin Murphy bed is the size to reach for when wall space is tight or when the bed will mostly host kids and single guests in a home office or spare room. The Night and Day Orion twin is the narrowest cabinet bed we sell at 42.4 inches wide and 20.5 inches deep, and at 36 inches tall, it can sit below any windowsill of that height or higher. There's an 11-inch clearance from the floor to the bottom of the side rails, plus roughly 6 inches of hidden storage for bedding.
The Siesta Desk Bed takes a different route to the same twin mattress. It's a standing-height desk with bookshelves on both sides and built-in outlets and USB ports, and it converts to a twin bed in under a minute. Because it doubles as a workstation, it's wider and deeper than the Orion, so plan the space around the desk you'll use every day. You can compare both in our twin cabinet bed range.
Full Size Cabinet Beds
A full size cabinet bed, or full Murphy bed, suits a single adult who wants more room to stretch, or a small guest room where a queen would crowd the floor. The full Orion keeps the twin's slim 20.5-inch depth and 36-inch height at 59.7 inches wide. Arason's Madrid and Coffee/Espresso cabinets come in a full version at 58 inches wide, 23 inches deep and 37.5 inches tall, both with a 6-inch tri-fold foam mattress included, and the Madrid full opens to 76 inches long.
There's also the Sealy San Sebastian, made from acacia solid wood and veneers. Its full size stands 63.3 inches wide, 49.6 inches tall and just 19.7 inches deep, the shallowest cabinet in our lineup, and it uses a Sealy gel memory foam mattress that measures 52.5 by 75 inches and 5 inches thick.

Queen Cabinet Bed Dimensions
A queen Murphy bed in cabinet form gives guests the same queen size sleeping surface they'd get on a regular bed frame, and it's where you'll find the widest choice of styles. Browse the full set of queen cabinet Murphy beds and you'll notice three cabinet shapes:
-
The Murphy Cube: 64.1 inches wide and one of the lowest queens we carry at 36.6 inches tall, opening to 80.3 inches.
-
The Night and Day credenza queens (Clover, Daisy, Poppy, Sagebrush and Ranchero): 63.5 by 23.7 by 41.1 inches, opening to 83.1 inches, with built-in outlets and USB ports.
-
The Arason Creden-ZzZ chest style: 64 by 23 by 41.5 inches, opening to 81 inches, with a flip top you can open without clearing it first.
All three are rated for about 500 pounds, enough for two adults. The Sealy San Sebastian queen is wider still at 69.3 inches, and its folding doors wrap around and out of the way when the bed is open.
What About a King Size Murphy Bed Cabinet?
King size Murphy bed cabinets come up in plenty of searches, but every cabinet bed we carry today tops out at queen. A king mattress is much wider than a queen, so a cabinet built to hide one would need to be wider and heavier too, which works against the small footprint that makes a cabinet bed useful.
If you need king sleeping space for everyday use, a traditional bed frame from our king size beds will serve you better. For a guest room that has to double as an office or gym, a queen cabinet bed is usually the better trade, and we're happy to talk through both options with you.
How Much Space Do Different Cabinet Bed Sizes Need?
Closed, cabinet bed dimensions translate into surprisingly little floor space. Night and Day lists the Poppy, Sagebrush and Ranchero at about 10 square feet, the Murphy Cube at about 11.75 square feet, and Arason's Key West and Verona at about 11 square feet. For context, the Census Bureau's new housing data puts the median size of new multifamily homes built for rent and completed in 2025 at 1,000 square feet, so a closed queen cabinet uses roughly 1 percent of a home that size.
Open is a different story. Depending on the model, the bed reaches 76 to 83 inches from the wall, so measure that distance out into the room and then leave a clear path to walk past the foot of the bed. Depth matters too. The Sealy San Sebastian sits 19.7 inches off the wall, the Orion 20.5, Arason 23, the credenza queens 23.7 and the Murphy Cube 26.4, which can be the difference between a hallway that works and one that doesn't.

How to Measure Your Room for a Cabinet Bed
A few minutes with a tape measure saves a lot of second-guessing later. Before you order, measure:
1. The wall width you plan to use, then compare it with the closed width of the models you like.
2. The distance from that wall to the nearest piece of furniture, which needs to cover the open length plus a walkway.
3. The height of any windowsill the cabinet will sit under.
4. The distance to the nearest outlet if you want the built-in power on our credenza queens or the Arason models, whose cord runs 6 feet from the back of the base.
5. Doorways, stairs and elevator openings along the delivery route.
The Murphy Cube ships in a box 66.3 by 28.7 by 6 inches, with the mattress packed separately, which helps a lot on narrow staircases.
Which Cabinet Bed Size Should You Choose?
Choose a twin for kids' rooms, home offices and narrow walls, where every inch of width counts. A full makes sense for one adult who sleeps on it often, or for a small guest room that can't spare the extra width a queen cabinet adds, about 6 inches on the Madrid and San Sebastian. Pick a queen for couples and for hosting, since it offers the most style choices, the most models with built-in power, and a proper guest bed that still helps you save space. If the bed will be slept on every night, look at the hybrid pocket coil mattress upgrade on the Murphy Cube and Night and Day credenza queens, which is built for everyday use.
