Night and Day Furniture Nutmeg Complete Bed (P-Series)

Night and Day Platform Beds Compared: P-Series vs K-Series (2026)

Short answer: Night and Day sells most of its Spices platform beds in two heights. The P-Series is the original platform bed height; the Basic and Paprika pages add that the rails can be reversed to adjust for mattress height. The K-Series sits higher, which lets the optional under-bed drawers be deeper and lets you add the optional Cinnamon trundle. Most bed styles come in both series, so the choice is mainly about height and accessories.

P-Series vs K-Series

  • P-Series: "our original platform bed height." The Basic P-Series page says the optional drawers are the same ones used on the futon frames and the rails can be reversed to adjust for mattress height. The Nutmeg and Thyme P-Series pages add that the bed can be used "in the lower position, for box spring use."
  • K-Series: sits higher. The optional drawers are deeper (the same as the bunk drawers) and the optional trundle can be used. The Nutmeg, Rosemary and Solstice pages state the Cinnamon Trundle fits under K-Series beds. The Basic K-Series page says the bed comes with a platform slat roll.
  • California King appears as a size only on the P-Series Basic, Nutmeg, Paprika and Thyme listings.

Series listings are separate products, so pick the P or K page for your model when you order. Beds in the Spices line are described as rubberwood and designed for use as platform beds. Optional storage drawers and a folding footboard bench are available for most models. See also our guides to the Spices bunk beds and wood futon frames, or browse the Night and Day Spices beds collection.

Styles

The Basic bed is the entry-level model, described for loft living, kids' rooms and guest rooms. The Black Pepper is minimalist with Art Deco simplicity. The Nutmeg has flared legs and curved-slat styling. The Paprika has a padded headboard in a linen-type fabric in four colors, which the page describes as a good choice for leaning back to read or watch TV.

The Solstice has a lattice pattern set within tapered legs. The Tarragon is described as a modern platform-style panel bed that is flat enough to lean a pillow against. The Thyme is P-Series only.

Published dimensions

Every page lists dimensions, but they are not all measured the same way. The table shows four examples. The Rosemary, Solstice and Tarragon pages list height, width and depth, as do the Black Pepper, Nutmeg, Paprika, Thyme and Chesapeake Mainsail pages. The Basic P-Series page lists width, depth and a 14-inch height, and does not say what the 14 inches measures.

Model / series Size Listed dimensions
Rosemary P-Series Twin 41 H x 45 W x 81 D
Rosemary P-Series Queen 41 H x 66 W x 86 D
Solstice P-Series Twin 44 H x 46 W x 81 D
Solstice P-Series Queen 44 H x 67 W x 86 D
Tarragon (P- and K-Series pages) Twin 50 H x 43 W x 76 D
Tarragon (P- and K-Series pages) Queen 50 H x 64 W x 81 D
Basic P-Series Twin 42.4"W x 80"D x 14"H
Basic P-Series Queen 63.3"W x 85D x 14"H

The Tamarind pages list one set of dimensions on both the P- and K-Series listings that does not match the bed sizes, so we have not published them. Ask before you order if the exact footprint matters.

Which one should you buy?

  • Want a trundle for sleepovers: choose the K-Series (Nutmeg, Rosemary or Solstice list the Cinnamon Trundle as fitting under K-Series beds).
  • Want deeper under-bed drawers: K-Series.
  • Want a California King: a P-Series Basic, Nutmeg, Paprika or Thyme.
  • Want the original platform height: P-Series (the Basic and Paprika pages say the rails can be reversed to adjust for mattress height).
  • Want a bed to lean against: Paprika (padded headboard) or Tarragon (flat panel).

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Night and Day P-Series and K-Series?
The P-Series is the original platform bed height. The K-Series sits higher, so its optional drawers are deeper and an optional trundle can be used.

Can I use a box spring on a P-Series bed?
The Nutmeg and Thyme P-Series pages say the frame can be used in the lower position for box spring use. Other pages do not say.

Does a trundle fit a P-Series bed?
The Nutmeg, Rosemary and Solstice pages say the Cinnamon Trundle fits under K-Series beds. The Rosemary, Solstice, Tamarind and Tarragon P-Series pages list a trundle bed as an optional accessory without saying which trundle or whether it fits, so confirm before ordering.

What finishes do the beds come in?
Most models offer Cherry, Dark Chocolate, Natural, Stonewash and White; see the table for the exceptions.
