Murphy Bed Basics
What is a Murphy Bed?
Murphy beds, also known as wall beds, fold-down beds, or pull-down beds, are space-saving bedding solutions that provide both functionality and comfort in small spaces. These beds are especially popular in apartments, tiny homes, college housing, and mobile homes. A Murphy Cabinet Bed is a modern twist on the traditional Murphy bed, seamlessly combining the bed with furniture like cabinets or shelves.
Unlike traditional Murphy beds that mount to the wall, Murphy Cabinet beds are free-standing, eliminating the need for wall installation. The mattress is stored within the cabinet, making the bed easy to fold up and down. This design allows the cabinet bed to blend in with other furniture in the room, providing additional storage and style.
How Murphy Beds Work
Murphy beds operate by utilizing a hinged mechanism to raise and lower the mattress as needed. In traditional Murphy beds, the bed is stored vertically against the wall or inside a cabinet or closet. The user lifts the mattress using a secure lifting mechanism, which locks the bed in place when not in use.
In the case of the Murphy Cabinet Bed, the bed frame and mattress are housed within a cabinet. To transform the cabinet into a bed, simply open the cabinet doors, pull the support legs out, and unfold the mattress onto the frame. When it's time to put the bed away, fold the mattress back into the cabinet, ensuring the support legs are safely tucked away.
Murphy Cabinet beds often come with additional features such as built-in charging stations and drawers, enhancing their functionality and convenience. They also typically accommodate various mattress sizes, ranging from twin to queen, allowing users to choose a bed that suits their specific needs.
In conclusion, Murphy beds, including Cabinet style Murphy beds, offer an excellent space-saving solution for those living in small spaces. These innovative beds are both functional and visually appealing, allowing users to create a comfortable living environment without compromising on style or space.
Benefits of Cabinet Style Murphy Beds
Are you considering a space-saving furniture solution for your small apartment or guest bedroom? In this section, we will discuss the advantages of cabinet-style Murphy beds and how they can elevate your living space.
Space Optimization
Cabinet-style Murphy beds are exceptionally space-efficient, making them a popular choice for studio apartments, small apartments, and guest bedrooms. With their fold-out design, these beds can be easily tucked away into a cabinet when not in use. This allows you to reclaim valuable floor space and create a more open, inviting room layout. When needed, the bed can be pulled out with minimal effort, providing a comfortable sleeping area for you or your guests.
Versatility
Cabinet beds are not just practical; they also offer a high degree of versatility. In contrast to traditional wall-mounted Murphy beds, cabinet beds do not require installation and can be moved around as needed. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for renters who may need to relocate their furniture between homes. Additionally, the cabinets often include built-in storage, such as shelves or drawers, which can help organize and declutter your living space.
Aesthetics
A cabinet-style Murphy bed not only saves space and offers versatility, but it also contributes to the aesthetic appeal of your living environment. These beds come in various styles, finishes, and materials to complement your existing décor and create a visually appealing focal point. When closed, the cabinet seamlessly blends into your room's design, and when opened, it transforms into a stylish and comfortable sleeping area.
In conclusion, cabinet-style Murphy beds provide an excellent solution for optimizing space in small apartments or guest bedrooms. With their space-saving design, versatility, and appealing aesthetics, they make a valuable addition to any living space.
Different Styles and Designs
Cabinet-style Murphy beds are a versatile and space-saving solution for those looking to maximize their living space. These beds come in a variety of styles, designs, and finishes to suit your taste and match your existing decor. In this section, we will explore three popular design categories: Classic, Contemporary, and Unique, to help you decide the best option for your needs.
Classic
Classic cabinet-style Murphy beds provide a timeless elegance that can complement traditional decor. These beds often feature wood finishes, such as cherry or white, which can easily blend with classic furniture pieces. Ornate detailing, such as crown molding or raised panels, may also be present in these designs, giving the bed an antique feel.
Some classic Murphy beds are designed with intricately carved headboards and footboards, adding to their charm. They serve as a perfect focal point for a bedroom while providing the convenience of a space-saving solution.
Contemporary
Contemporary cabinet-style Murphy beds are designed to fit seamlessly into modern and minimalist spaces. These beds often feature clean lines, a mixture of lighter wood tones like gray or bark gray, and may incorporate metal or glass accents for a sleek, polished look.
While contemporary beds may have a simpler design, these beds often come with additional functionality, such as built-in storage, shelving, or integrated desks to maximize functionality even while the bed is not in use. The understated aesthetics of contemporary designs allow these beds to blend easily into any modern setting.
Unique
For those who want a more personalized touch, unique cabinet-style Murphy beds offer creative designs with unconventional features. These beds can incorporate elements such as murphy beds with bookshelves or other storage ideas that blend form and function while making a bold statement in your living space.
Some unique designs include beds that fold into artistic wall installations, multi-functional beds that are combined with other furniture like sofas, and even beds with whimsical themes for children's rooms. These one-of-a-kind beds are not only great conversation-starters, but they also provide a practical solution for individuals seeking an innovative and stylish way to optimize limited space.
In conclusion, cabinet-style Murphy beds are available in a variety of styles, colors, and designs to suit your personal preferences. From classic elegance to modern functionality and unique creativity, these beds offer a space-saving solution for any room, without compromising on style or comfort.
Materials Used for Murphy Beds
Have you ever wondered about the materials used for constructing cabinet-style Murphy beds? Knowing the materials used can help you make an informed decision when it comes to purchasing or building a Murphy bed. In this section, we will discuss some of the common materials used in the construction of these versatile beds.
Murphy beds are commonly made using a variety of materials, including particle board, hardwood, metal, engineered wood, and solid hardwood construction. Each of these materials offers certain advantages and disadvantages, depending on the specific needs and preferences of the user.
Particle board is an affordable option often used in the construction of Murphy beds. It is made from wood chips, sawdust, and resin, which are pressed together to form sheets. While particle board is lightweight and cost-effective, it is not as durable or long-lasting as other materials, making it a less ideal choice for those seeking a sturdy and dependable bed.
Hardwood is a popular choice for Murphy beds due to its strength and durability. Hardwood options, such as oak and maple, are known for their longevity and ability to withstand daily wear and tear. However, they tend to be more expensive than other materials, which may be a concern for budget-conscious buyers.
Metal is another material often used in the construction of Murphy beds, particularly for the bed frame and hardware components. Metal provides strength and durability, as well as a modern, sleek appearance. Some Murphy beds combine metal with other materials, such as wood, for added style and functionality.
Engineered wood products, such as medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and plywood, are also used in the construction of Murphy beds. These materials are made by combining wood fibers, veneers, or layers of wood with adhesives to form a strong and stable composite material. Engineered wood is typically more affordable than solid hardwood, while still offering a high level of strength and durability.
Lastly, solid hardwood construction is featured in some high-quality Murphy beds. This type of construction uses solid pieces of hardwood to create the bed, offering unparalleled strength and durability. However, solid hardwood construction is typically the most expensive option when it comes to Murphy bed materials.
In summary, cabinet-style Murphy beds can be constructed from a variety of materials, including particle board, hardwood, metal, engineered wood, and solid hardwood construction. Each material offers different advantages and disadvantages, so it is essential to consider your specific needs, preferences, and budget when selecting a Murphy bed material.
Considerations Before Buying
Are you thinking about investing in a cabinet-style Murphy bed? If so, there are several factors to consider before making your purchase. This section will help guide you through the essential aspects to take into account, ensuring you make an informed decision.
Size
The first thing to consider is the size of the Murphy bed and the mattress size that it can accommodate. Measure the dimensions of the available space in your room and compare them to the size of the bed when it's folded up and unfolded. Make sure there is enough clearance for the bed when it's in use, and that it fits comfortably within the cabinet when stowed away.
Durability
When assessing the durability of a Murphy bed, consider the materials and construction quality of both the bed frame and the cabinet. Look for products that are made from solid wood or high-quality metals, which will ensure the bed can support the specified weight capacity (some even have a 1,000-pound weight capacity). Moreover, check the warranty provided by the manufacturer for added peace of mind.
Safety
Safety is a crucial aspect to consider when purchasing a cabinet-style Murphy bed. Ensure that the bed is equipped with a reliable locking mechanism to prevent accidental openings when stowed away. Additionally, verify that the bed's mounting system is sturdy and secure, which will minimize the risk of injury during use.
Comfort
Since Murphy beds are typically used as primary or secondary sleeping spaces, comfort should not be compromised. Make sure the bed is compatible with the type of mattress you prefer, and also pay attention to the bed's slat or support system, which can greatly impact the overall comfort level. High-quality materials and craftsmanship will contribute to a more comfortable sleeping experience.
Price
Finally, consider the price of the cabinet-style Murphy bed. While affordability is important, it should not come at the expense of quality, comfort, or safety. Take the time to compare different products within your budget, considering the various factors discussed above. This will help ensure that you make the best possible decision within your financial constraints.
By keeping these considerations in mind, you will be able to make a well-informed decision while purchasing a cabinet-style Murphy bed, which will ultimately provide a comfortable, space-saving, and safe solution for your home.

Maintenance and Care
Cabinet-style Murphy beds are a space-saving solution that many homeowners appreciate. But, like any other piece of furniture, they require proper maintenance and care to stay in perfect working condition. In this section, we'll discuss important aspects of maintaining your Murphy bed, including cleaning, conducting safety checks, and handling warranty claims, ensuring you get the most out of your investment.
Cleaning
Regular cleaning of your Murphy bed is essential to keep it looking clean and fresh. Start by vacuuming the mattress surface using a suitable vacuum attachment, which will help remove any dust or debris. For stains or spills, wipe the affected area with a damp cloth and mild detergent as soon as possible. This will help preserve the mattress and keep it in good condition.
The bed's cabinet and hardware may also need occasional cleaning. Use a soft cloth to wipe down wooden surfaces, and gentle cleaning products that are suitable for wood.
Safety Check
Performing regular safety checks on your Murphy bed will ensure its continued smooth operation. Inspect the bed's frame, cabinet, and lifting mechanisms for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure that all hardware, including screws and bolts, is secure and tightly fastened. Additionally, check for any shifting or misalignment in the bed's components, as this could affect its function.
Murphy beds are generally easy to move, thanks to their convenient design. However, it's essential to maintain their safety, especially if you move it frequently. When moving the bed, make sure it is properly secured to prevent accidents or damage to the bed or your home.
Warranty Claims
Most Murphy bed manufacturers offer warranties to protect customers against defects and damaged products. Familiarize yourself with your bed's warranty policy, including its terms, coverage period, and the steps to file a claim.
In the event of any issues with your bed, contact the manufacturer's customer service to report the problem and seek help or assistance. Have your bed's information handy, such as the model, purchase date, and any relevant documentation, when discussing with customer service. This will help facilitate a smoother process for any warranty claims, repairs, or replacements.
In conclusion, proper maintenance and care for your cabinet-style Murphy bed will ensure its longevity and continued functionality. By regularly cleaning, performing safety checks, and being prepared for potential warranty claims, you can enjoy the comfort and convenience of your Murphy bed for years to come.
Conclusion
Cabinet-style Murphy beds have become an increasingly popular choice for those looking to save space and improve the functionality of their living areas. These beds provide a stylish, yet practical solution, eliminating the need for a box spring and allowing easy storage when not in use.
Choosing the right cabinet-style Murphy bed can make a significant difference in both comfort and convenience. Many manufacturers now offer free shipping on their products, making them even more accessible and budget-friendly for potential buyers.
Overall, the benefits of a cabinet-style Murphy bed are apparent – from space-saving design to the ease with which they can be folded away. When carefully selected, these beds can serve as a valuable addition to any living space, all while providing a comfortable sleeping surface that rivals a traditional bed.
However, it's critical to consider each individual's needs and preferences when deciding on the best Murphy bed for you. Factors such as size, orientation, and additional features (like built-in storage or desks) will play a significant role in the ultimate satisfaction with your purchase. By taking these factors into account and researching available options, you'll be well on your way to finding the perfect cabinet-style Murphy bed that enhances your living space and meets all your requirements.

Let customers speak for us
from 670 reviewsI had 2 of these patina iris for my front yard. I love them in my new landscaping, so I bought 3 more fir my back yard!
Beautiful furniture piece! This is top quality wood and mattress! Very comfortable! My husband put it together in 1 1/2 hours.
These look beautiful on my porch. I am very pleased with the quality of them.
We are very pleased with our Murphy cabinet bed cube. All communication with Archic Furniture has been positive and prompt. The bed is very sturdy, and very attractive! The cabinet had very clear instructions for assembly. We would definitely purchase from this Archic Furniture again should the need arise. We are not full time in our new home yet so are unable to provide a photo. Thank you
The bed assembled perfectly and looks great. Our guest said the bed was really comfortable. But where were my 2 free pillows?
I love my new rockers. They look beautiful on my porch!!!
Excellent quality just what we wanted

We have a beach themed Hair Salon and Spa. So we chose the boardwalk slat type theme desk to go with our decor....
I love my Uttermost product and I was very impressed that you called me directly to make sure I received the delivery. How much more professional can a company get! You are the best and I do a lot of ordering with other organizations.
Thank you.
The product was good quality from top to bottom and very easy to assemble.
The bed is solid, well made and had no defects or blemishes. Delivery was quick, on time and the packaging was excellent. It was one of the easiest assemblies we have ever experienced. My husband was especially impressed with how clear the instructions were and the quality of the craftsmanship. We also liked that there were videos on the website that helped explain how to open up and put away the bed itself. The entire process was seamless. We have not slept in the bed yet - our first test will be when our son and daughter-in-law visit in a few weeks, however just lying on the bed it seems very comfortable.
I ordered this bar stool for my outdoor bar and I love it
The bed is exactly what we wanted snd lived up to the advertised quality.
