A Murphy cabinet bed, also called a Murphy bed cabinet or cabinet bed, is hidden bed furniture: a credenza, chest or cube that stores a folded mattress and opens into a real bed. Most models here are free-standing, with no wall or floor mounting.

How to choose a cabinet bed

  • Size: most are queen, and a few come in twin or full. See the cabinet bed size guide for dimensions.
  • Style: several Night and Day credenza-style queens keep a TV on top while open. Arason Creden-ZzZ chests have a flip top: slide items to the back rather than clearing it. The Murphy Cube is the lowest queen here at 36.6 inches high (the Orion twin and full are 36 inches).
  • Mattress: Arason chests include a tri-fold foam mattress, and the Sealy San Sebastian and Vintage White Murphy Cube list one with the bed. Night and Day sells most other models as a Complete Set with a gel memory foam mattress, and its queens also offer a hybrid pocket coil upgrade. The Artisan desk bed does not include a mattress.
  • Power and USB: the Night and Day credenza queens, the Arason chests and the Artisan desk bed list built-in outlets or USB. The Murphy Cube and the Orion do not, and the Vintage White Murphy Cube, Louvre and Sealy San Sebastian pages do not list a power module.
  • Storage: Arason chests have a drawer for pillows and bedding. The Siesta is a desk with bookshelves that becomes a twin bed, and the Artisan is a twin desk bed (see Murphy beds with a desk).
